We’re always looking for interesting classes to fulfill our general education requirements, but the great thing about these classes is they will further your understanding of race. You can also pick ones that might be relevant to your major or career, which is always a bonus. All of these classes are offered for fall quarter 2020.

In-Justice for All: Intersection of Race, Ethnicity, and Gender in the United States
The title of this class is pretty self-explanatory but you’ll get a comprehensive study of how race, ethnicity, and gender has impacted Americans over the years. Specifically, you’ll go all the way back to the pre-Columbian era and end in the 1970s.
Introduction to Racial & Ethnic Health Disparities
The issue of racial disparities is becoming increasingly relevant to medicine, so this class is great if you’re a pre-med student. By studying health status and healthcare disparities within minority groups, you will become more aware of the impact of race and racism on healthcare.
African American Politics
If you’re interested in politics, you should consider taking this class, where you will have the opportunity to examine the roles Black individuals have played in socio-political processes in America. You’ll also look at that in the context of post-civil rights and how for the Black community, race is always intertwined with politics.
Introduction African American Literature
How has black literature evolved over time? If you love reading and analyzing texts, this is the class for you. You'll have the chance to explore the cultural and historical contexts of various texts and discuss topics such as racism and canonical acceptance.
Introduction to African American Studies
If you’re interested in African diaspora studies, this is a great place to start. This class draws from African studies and stems from diaspora studies, so you'll analyze social life from the Black perspective through historical and contemporary writings.
Race and American History
This class is more relevant than ever, as you will study the struggle of organizations and individuals in their pursuit of racial justice. By connecting slave revolts to the Black Lives Matter, you’ll recognize how much race defines power dynamics in America.
Black Digital Studies
This class is the bridge between Black studies and digital humanities, where you will study knowledge production and the roles of archives, research centers, and more. This class is offered every quarter, so no worries if you can't fit it in fall quarter.
African American Film Studies
This class is perfect if you love films, as you’ll be studying Black directors and producers and how their work defies typical representations of Blackness in cinema. You’ll also look at the history and theory of Black filmmaking.
Data and Society
Ethical issues are pertinent to every field, including the tech industry. If you’re planning to go into this field, take this class to understand how our digital lifestyle affects social relations. You’ll discuss the social implications of data science and the digital revolution.
